Tips on buying a digital camera

Tips on buying a digital camera by Suzanne VanDeGrift

It's just like buying a pair of shoes or a car. Your camera, in a sense has to "fit" or you won't be happy with it.
And there are almost as many cameras out there, and camera bags, as shoes and cars. So do your research; handle them, try them on, in a sense, before you buy.
First, learn the terminology. What is a megapixel? It's a unit of measurement that determines the quality of the image. The higher the megapixels, the better the quality.
LCD screen - this is a screen that allows you to view the picture you just took.
The memory card is used to save your pictures. They come in different sizes to hold more images.
Digital zoom is the enlarging of the image and requires the camera to double the size of the pixels which will cause the image to begin to blur. The optical zoom operates the same as in the 35mm and actually magnifies the subject, therefore producing a better quality picture.
Camera bags with adjustable dividers, modular belts and U-shaped lens cradles which store the lens securely. These are a few of the basic terminologies associated with the digital camera. There are others terms and you might want to take the time to familiarize yourself with them before going the next step.
That next step is to decide where you're going to buy your camera. You can shop online and buy direct, you can shop the online auctions, or you can go shopping the old fashioned way, to the stores that carry cameras, for that hands-on experience. If you choose the latter, you might want to consider investing in a Sunday paper and checking out the ads to get an idea of who is offering what, since just about all the major stores carry the digital camera.
However you choose to buy, first do your comparison shopping, it could save you money depending upon the camera you purchase. Go online and read the reviews, these will give you invaluable information from fellow photographers
After you've decided how you're going to purchase your camera, set your budget. If you're new to the digital camera world and are wanting to get your feet wet, there are cameras that will produce good pictures with a price tag of $100 or less.
Fuji's FinePix A400 is one in this price range that combines 4 megapixels with 3x optical zoom. It has a 1.8 inch LCD screen and an added bonus of video capability.
Another one is made by Kodak, their EasyShare C530, which has 5 megapixels with digital zoom and, also shoots video. Polaroid has put out a modern looking black square camera with 3.2 megapixels and 3x optical zoom and video, it's their PDC-3070BD. The $200 range will get you a host of features from 5 to 6 megapixels; 4x optical zoom; oversized, 2.5 inch, LCD screens; 9- point autofocus; and even a built-in mp3 player. For a little extra money, you get a lot more camera. As the cost goes up, so do the features. You can spend into the $1000's for the Digital SLR cameras.
Now it's time to make your decision and your purchase. Once you get it home, whether it's shipped or you carry it, the first thing you want to do is make sure you complete the warranty information properly. Avoid putting this off, since it could fall through the cracks and you never know when you might need the service. Take the time to read all the literature and familiarize yourself thoroughly with your new camera. If you've been using film and this is your first digital experience, consider taking a course at the local college or picking up one of the great publications that are available, such as Digital Photography All-in-One Desk Reference For Dummies. It offers a wealth of information that you will find useful as a beginner and will continue to use as you become more experienced.
Next comes the purchase of a camera bag. This is an important addition, since you want to keep your new investment safe; free from scratches or broken LCD screen. You want to buy a quality, well constructed case that is large enough to accommodate your camera and whatever accessories you've purchased. If the case is too large, your equipment will bang around inside and damage can occur. There are several types of cases; The camera bag which is ideal for the small to medium sized digital camera, plus accessories, with comfortable grip handle or well-padded shoulder strap. The modular belt that converts some bags into fanny packs are a very convenient, hands-free method of carrying your camera. Or, there's the camera backpack for hiking. Whichever you choose, make sure the quality is there. Durable stitching, strong fabric, good padding. If you select your camera bag with care, it will be a companion for your camera for many years to come. You're now ready to go out there and begin capturing memories. Have fun!

Photography: The Basics

Photography: The Basics by Colin Hartness

Photography comes from the Greek words meaning "light writing" and first became known back in 1839 by Sir John Herschel. For many years prior to this, people had discovered ways of causing certain chemicals to change color when exposed to light but they did not discover ways of getting the images to remain permanent until later on.

Now photography is a big part of our culture, something that everyone recognizes. Most everyone has family photos lying around their house, many people take these photos on a regular basis, preserving precious memories for years to come. Even if you don't have your own camera, you have seen photos in magazines, used on billboards and advertisements and more.

What is Photography?

Photography is defined as "The art or process of producing images by the action of light on surfaces sensitized by chemical processes." (www.ncpublicschools.org/curriculum/ArtsEd/vglossar.htm)

The average person never has to deal with this technical definition because they take their photographs to a lab to be processed. They simply take pictures with their camera and then drop them off somewhere to be developed. They get their prints back on nice glossy paper that they can then keep to see the images at any time they wish.

There are also instant develop photographs, commonly known as the Polaroid, in which the paper itself contains the chemicals needed and when the paper sits for a few seconds exposed to light the photo will develop. Many people enjoy these because you could view your photo almost instantly but over the years, the quality has improved with other films and many people migrated to other types of cameras.

The common types of film are 35mm and 110. These film rolls come in different speeds that are meant for different lighting and situations and are loaded into your camera, used until the end of the roll and then sent for developing.

What Are the Different Types of Photography?

Photography is more than just a fabric of the average family's memories, it has become an art form taking on many different types. Some types of photography are artistic photography, photojournalism, documentary photography, portrait photography, event photography, family photography, nature photography, advertising photography, underwater photography, satellite photography and more. Each of these types has many different directions in which they can go.

Photography is a common hobby or pastime for many people. It is a career for many other people. There are so many different venues of it. One of the most recent revelations in photography is the digital camera and digital photo. In an age of computers and computer technology, digital photos have become increasingly popular. People no longer have to deal with film and developing because digital photos can be downloaded onto a computer and viewed instantly.

Digital photos can be shared on the web and through email. They can also be saved on CDs. Many digital cameras come with LCD screens so the photos can be viewed from the camera itself. You see what the picture looks like instantly instead of waiting for developing. Digital cameras are advancing every day and new technology is released on each one. Lower quality ones can be picked up at a local retail store for about $15 now.
These often do not contain flash and the quality is not as great. Other digital cameras can range anywhere from $20 to $1,000. The most high-tech camera for normal individual use is about $200. This may seem like a lot but when compared to the price of film and developing, you can save a lot by going this route. You can also send as many copies of your photos as you wish through email and the web so copies are unlimited. You can even print copies of your digital photographs from your computer.

Photography has come a long way since its early days but its popularity has not waned. It will likely be with us for thousands of years to come.

Polaroid Company and Their Digital Technology

Polaroid Company and Their Digital Technology by Patricia Stevens

The epoch let out Polaroid society conditions and account materials for the sake of instant reception of photos with the use of chemical processes, and has succeeded in it.
The concept of Polaroid pictures became standard and did not demand further explanations. However the competition of the digital technologies in the end has compelled the company to refuse the archaic "chemistry" and to offer buyers more modern decisions.
However, the idea of "an instant photo" has not disappeared, and today Polaroid has suggested taking for these purposes the easy mobile printer PoGo, which is quite corresponding to the spirit of modern technologies.
The principle of reception of images is rather original - performance contains neither ink, nor painting materials. The essence of the focus consists in the firm photographic paper ZINK, which contains layers with crystals of primary colours.
Some manufacturers among whom are Agfa, Epson and Polaroid, for increases of the target sanction apply technologies of image improvement. In Polaroid PDC-3000 for its matrix with one million elements the technology of expansion of the target image is also applied though at the disconnected function of expansion it is possible to receive only 800x600 pixels.
The nearest purpose of Polaroid Company is creation of technology of an instant press of digital photos. Soon Polaroid plans to present two platforms of a digital press; now they are designated by code names Onyx and Opal.
Management of Polaroid hopes, that it will help to correct the parameters, which have worsened recently of sales and to provide the companies leading positions in a developing market of processing digital images.
Opal and Onyx technologies should raise quality and reduce the cost of an instant press of digital images. Opal tools are intended for reception of colour prints, and Onyx technology is focused on processing of monochrome and black-and-white images. Both systems provide application of a paper with a special covering and use of special thermal process. Unlike the traditional Polaroid instant photos, to the prints made by Onyx and Opal technology, it is not required even a little additional time for development.
Activation of or crystals occurs following the account of heating of a material in the printer. The company approves, that pictures received as a result do not fade in a course of a long time, are not smeared and are not afraid of casual drops of water. However, we can assume that the difference of heat is not an advantage for the pictures.
Polaroid traditionally does not indulge the users with the size of instant pictures - the photographic paper for the sake of PoGo has a size of 5 ı 7,6 cm. Press of one picture borrows about 60 seconds. The sources of images are mobile cameras, digital cameras the use of interfaces Bluetooth or USB (PictBridge).
Polaroid has declared the start of new electronic XSJ-00750M, 7 inches digital photo frame with a unique feature - increase in ability that allows users to look through and increase the photos without the use of a computer.
In opinion of the company, it has allowed a zoom-digital camera frame to include functions of a slide show from 5 stages adjustable terms: from 3 till 60 seconds. This latest digital product from Polaroid also features an interchangeable frame, brightness, and ratio of 400:1 resistance and USB 2.0 connectivity, along with an integrated multi-card reader to handle wide variety of memory card formats.
